“Process of democratization in Tunisia: cooperation between Tunisia and the European Union”

IASEM was the promoter of the International Meeting process of democratization in Tunisia: cooperation between Tunisia and the European Union, in collaboration with KAS Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and UTICA Union Tunisiene de l’Industrie, du Commerce et de l’Artisanat.
The Meeting was marked by several bilateral meetings between the European delegation and the Tunisian authorities, but the highest moment of the meeting was held at the UTICA headquarters, with the participation of the President of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Hans-Gert Poettering, the Tunisian Minister of Higher Education Moncef Ben Salem, the Tunisian Minister of Culture Mehdi Mabrouk, the President of IASEM Giuseppe Papaleo.
“Democracy” – said Mr. Papaleo – “is not just about new rules, which are also necessary, not just about having the right to speak and vote. The word democracy means not only one of the many forms of government that can assume a state. Instead, it is a word that has come, in this century, to designate a way of being and feeling. A way to approach to the needs of others, a way to meet the material and spiritual needs of millions of people, a way to relate to the people around us”.
